David is married with two sons and lives in the Barnehurst ward of the Bexleyheath and Crayford constituency. He was the Member of Parliament for Erith and Crayford from 1983 to 1997. Prior to his election to Parliament, he has worked as a secondary school teacher, an insurance broker, a director in the city and a lecturer in management.
He was educated at grammar school (Buckhurst Hill County High School for Boys) and the London School of Economics and Political Science.
David is an active member of St.Paulinus Church in Crayford. He is a Friend of the Greenwich and Bexley Hospice and Governor of Townley Road Grammar School for Girls and St. Paulinus Church of England Primary School. He is an active supporter of the Bexleyheath and District Club for the Disabled. David enjoys the cinema, 1960s pop music, travel and visiting National Trust properties.
David Evennett’s Experience
David was elected to Parliament in 1983 for the Erith and Crayford constituency. During his time in the House of Commons he was a member of the Select Committee on Education, Science and the Arts (1986-92) and served as a Parliamentary Private Secretary in the Education Department, the Welsh Office and the Home Office during the 1992-97 Parliament.
David served as a London Borough councillor in Redbridge (1974-78); stood as the Conservative candidate for Hackney South and Shoreditch in the General Election of 1979 and was the Conservative candidate for Bexleyheath and Crayford in the 2001 General Election (reducing the Labour majority to 1,472). He was Deputy Chairman (Political) of Bexleyheath and Crayford Conservative Association (2001-03).
He returned to Parliament as the MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford in 2005, and was re-elected in the 2010 General Election with an increased majority.
