Bexley Conservative Ladies Luncheon Club celebrated their 60th Birthday on Thursday 24th September with a special lunch held at the Marriott hotel. One hundred members attended and enjoyed a drink of Pimms before the celebratory lunch. The guest speaker was Theresa Villiers Shadow Secretary of State for Transport and among the guests were David Evennett and his wife Marilyn and Cllr. Colin Bloom Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Erith and Thamesmead. Also present was one of the founding club members Winnie Wolfe who still regularly attends the monthly lunches.
At the start of the lunch David Evennett read out a letter to the Club that he had received from the Rt. Hon The Baroness Thatcher who was the Parliamentary candidate for Dartford (which included Crayford, Erith, Barnehurst and Belvedere) in 1949 when the Luncheon Club was founded. Maggie had attended some of the early lunch meetings together with Ted Heath.
